THE "AD-LIB" GLOSSARY

Creativity (n.) the ability to produce something new through the use of imagination or original ideas.

We specialise in ideas, and we know that if even the smallest of them is allowed to germinate, amazing things can happen. Many of our projects are arts based because we believe that involvement with the arts builds self esteem, aspiration and understanding, and is a great means of problem solving and bringing people together.

Synergy (n.) interaction or co-operation of two or more organisations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.

We know that a good partnership is definitely greater than the sum of its parts and that when organisations and people come together, expertise, experience, skills, ideas and economies can be shared. All our projects ensure that well-thought-out partnerships lead to successful outcomes.

Potential (n.) latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to positive outcomes.

Our projects are built upon the premise that there is much untapped potential within communities, individuals and organisations which when allowed to grow can be very powerful. We take what is inherent in people and communities and harness it to promote social growth. First, barriers to growth must be removed, and then we make people aware of the potential that exists, channel it, and sit back and watch the results!

Capacity Building (v.) developing the skills of the members of a community in such a way that they are better able to identify, and help meet their needs and to participate more fully in society.

We know potential when we see it, but we also recognise that not everyone is there yet. To this end, all of our projects begin by promoting the conditions in which positive growth can occur, whether in individuals or communities.
